The Best Toys Of 2010: Toy Industry Awards

It's that time of year again. The Toy Industry Association (TIA) just hosted its 107th Toy Fair at New York City's Javits Center, and the TIA has presented its 2010 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards.  This year there were 12 toys that received TOTYs in 13 categories of awards.  The Grand Prize winner this year, was also a winner of two individual category awards in this years competition!

Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters were the biggest selling toys for Christmas 2009 and they're still hot as can be.  Pipsqueek, Num Nums, Mr Squiggles and Chunk are now joined by Jilly, Winkie, Nugget and Scoodles and they have countless outfits and toys to keep the product strong in 2010.  Oh, they've even had hamster babies!
 

Activity Toy of the Year: Crayola Crayon Town, Wild Planet
A clever color, build, and play set available in a variety of scenes like the Crayon Town Large Mat Zoo Set, Crayon Town Large Mat Construction Set, Crayon Town Horse Ranch, and the Crayon Town Airport. This is a neat activity toy, appropriate for boys and girls, ages 3 to 8.

Boy Toy of the Year: Bakugan 7-in-1 Maxus Dragonoid, Spin Master
A combination of 1 Bakugan and 6 Bakugan Traps - Grakas Hound, Dark Hound, Grafias, Brachium, Spitarm, SpyderFencer & Neo Dragonoid -  that comprise the Maxus Dragonoid are unique to this set.  If this looks familiar, the Bakugan Battle Brawlers BattlePack Series 1 Spheres won the 2009 Boy Toy of the Year TOTY and the 2009 Toy of the year!

 Educational Toy of the Year: Mindstorms NXT 2.0, Lego Systems
A challenging robot building set that comes with a step-by-step instruction book (thankfully!)  Building the Robogator, Alpha Rex, Shooterbot, and Colorsorter robots is only part of the fun; getting to watch them in action is amazing.  The brain of the bots is a 32-microbit processor that allows them to see, speak, feel, and move.  You're in for a treat!

 A solvable Rubik's Cube that's all electronic!  Each square lights up and slides like the original Cube, by simply swiping your finger across the square. Game of the Year: Sort It Out, University Games
It's a board game, a card game, an electronic game... however you want to play it.  A great game for family play, you get to guess at the answers before you find out what they really are.

Toddlers can create salsa, rock, swing, and country music just by coloring.  As they scribble faster, the music gets faster; as they slow down, so the music goes. Buttons for four different instruments that can layer the music.


Outdoor Toy of the Year: My 1st Scooter, Radio Flyer

Specialty Toy of the Year: Captain Owen's Dolphin Explorer Boat, Sprig Toys
