Toy weapons out of LEGO

As kids, we all built our share of toy weapons out of LEGO, but the end result was always a mess of different colored bricks that just looked weird. Here are some more authentic looking weapons. We told you about the Glock 17, but BrickGun actually has several models available. The BrickGun models are surprisingly accurate when compared to their real life counterparts. At the moment the company sells 5 different models including a Beretta 92FS, a Desert Eagle Mark XIV, a Glock 17 and 19, plus a limited edition Heckler & Koch MP5 which is sold out at the moment.

They won’t fire a projectile, but they have ‘working’ triggers, slides, hammers and other moving parts. The handgun kits range in price from $39.99 to $59.99 and include all the LEGO pieces and instructions you’ll need. Or you can order a CD with just the instructions or even purchase PDF files directly from the BrickGun website.

First breastfeeding doll The Breast Milk Baby

Last week Berjuan Toys, launched the world’s first breastfeeding doll, “The Breast Milk Baby” into the U.S. market. The doll lets young girls express their love and affection in the most natural way possible, by simulating natural nursing. According to Dennis Lewis, U.S. spokesman for Berjuan Toys, “the whole purpose of The Breast Milk Baby is to teach children the nurturing skills they’ll need to raise their own healthy babies in the future. Breastfeeding is good for babies, it’s good for mommies and it’s good for society. We really don’t understand why this has created such controversy.”

According to Mr. Lewis, “The truth is that we’ve received overwhelming support online from all over the country. However, about 20% of the messages have been hateful and mean. We’re being called perverts and pedophiles for promoting feeding our babies the way God intended? Churches all over the world are filled with images of Mary nursing baby Jesus, and yet we can’t imagine letting our daughters learn how important breastfeeding is for our society?”

With few exceptions, the World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life for all babies. Also, former Pope John Paul II stated, “So human and natural is this bond that the Psalms use the image of the infant at its mother’s breast as a picture of God’s care for man (cf. Ps 22:9).”

“A hundred years ago, 90% of Americans would have laughed at all this controversy. Breastfeeding was considered a normal part of everyday life until the pharmaceutical companies struck gold with the idea of artificial milk in the 1920s. As Americans we’ve been duped into believing there’s something shameful and taboo about breastfeeding, but the truth is that this idea was created to sell more baby formula. The Breast Milk Baby is a serious product, created by a small family owned Christian toy manufacturer who strongly believes in the benefits of feeding babies the natural God given way. Our dolls are beautiful and well made, and we’re proud of them.”

Russian Barbie coming in may 2011

If you’re a true Barbie® fan, you know that designer Robert Best is famous for the gorgeous dolls he creates in the Barbie® Fashion Model Collection, his signature line. And you most likely also know that each year, Robert’s dolls embody a particular theme. From celebrated career girls to stylish gals on the social scene, Robert infuses each and every doll with his own love for chic style and high fashion detailing.
In 2011, Robert may just have outdone even himself in this collection. After traveling to Russia and discovering the emerging fashion market there, he returned to America and set to work on the 2011 dolls in his signature collection.
Taking inspiration from the city’s rich history, its colorful and cultural landmarks, and of course the FASHION, Robert created an entire collection of stylish and exotic dolls that embrace and embody the country’s unique heritage. One look at this collection, and we’re sure you’ll be adding them to the top of your wish list!
In 2011, we’ll be unveiling all of the delightful dolls in the collection. For now, here’s a sneak at three of Robert’s Russian beauties.

First, there’s Mila™ Barbie® Doll. Blond, adorable, and oh so stylish, this doll wears a fashion forward ensemble that pays homage to Russian nesting dolls.
“I particularly love this doll’s face. It is a very sweet, dolly face and kind of a departure from the usual more vampy make-up I prefer. I also love the Matroyshka doll print because of course Russian nesting dolls are a ubiquitous item found at every tourist spot in Russia,” Robert explains.

And then there’s Darya™ Barbie® Doll. Sleek and sophisticated this breathtaking beauty embodies Russian elegance. Wearing a striking red dress with golden detailing and black stiletto boots, she’s sure to turn heads wherever she goes.
“If there is a color I associate with Russia, it would be a brilliant, regal red. But red is nothing without a little gilt to dress it up, so I love the golden embroidery on Darya's short dress. There’s a throne room at L'Hermitage that reminds me very much of the details of this dress and of course it is red with gold accents,” Robert says, adding, “I also particularly like that the dress is short as it is typical to expect an evening look to be a long gown, but the short dress feels fresh.”
When you think of definitive Russian glamour, you can’t forget the country’s must have fashion accessory – the Ushanka, or stylish faux fur cap with ear flaps.

Verushka™ Barbie® Doll wears an oh-so-stylish Ushanka atop her blond locks. Her chic ensemble also features a detailed black coat, faux fur trimmed boots, with plenty of fashionista attitude!
According to Robert, “The doll's hat is particularly great because it’s basically a trapper hat, but done in black fab faux fur with luxe details like a silvery chain chin strap, and of course Barbie keeps things glam with a blinged out hatpin.”
To check out each of the dolls in this year's Barbie Fashion Model Collection, as seen on their fully designed sets, come back to BarbieCollector.com each month for updates.
Now that you’ve gotten a glimpse of these three Russian beauties, which one tops YOUR wish list? Share your faves here.
AND…stay tuned. There’s more to come from the Barbie Fashion Model Collection in 2011. Until then, stay stylish!

RoboPhilo robot toy

Now here’s a robot toy that doesn’t break the bank, although it is still rather pricey at $499. The RoboPhilo is a compact personal robot that can walk around out-of-the-box without having you piece together intricate servos and wiring that other robot kits come with. Standing tall at 13″, it has more than 20 individual servos that lets you control its head, legs, arms and joints, so with the right dose of creativity and inspiration, you will be able to conjure some pretty complex moves. The movements can be programmed on the PC or via the multi-function wireless remote control that has more buttons than you can shake a stick at.

BOARD GAMES

A board game is a game in which counters or pieces are placed, removed, or moved on a premarked surface or "board" according to a set of rules. Games may be based on pure strategy, chance or a mixture of the two and usually have a goal which a player aims to achieve. Early board games represented a battle between two armies and most current board games are still based on beating opposing players in terms of counters, winning position or accrual of points (often expressed as in-game currency).
There are many different types and styles of board games. Their representation of a real life situation can range from having no inherent theme, such as Chekers to having a specific theme and narrative, such as Cluedo . Rules range from the very simple, such as in Tic-tac-toe , to ones which describe a game universe in great detail, such as in Dungeons & Dragons, although most of these are Role-playing games and the board is secondary to the game, serving to visualize the scenario. The length of time it takes to learn to play or master a game can vary greatly from game to game. Learning time does not necessarily correlate with the amount or complexity of rules; some games, such as chess , Go have simple rules that can still lead to complex scenarios

Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS

One of the top toys of 2011 is one that most people will be familiar with. Well, they’ll be familiar with the name of the company that makes the toy and with the type of toy that it is, and that’s because the company has been around for a very long time. The Nerf company has been creating high quality children’s items for longer than most of us can remember, and in the last dozen or so years they have managed to take children’s love of guns to a fun and safe place. The newest arsenal in their line of weaponry is something that has to be seen to be believed, because, to put it in the words of children that have used it, it’s “just too cool”.

The Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS is a blaster that definitely looks amazing. It has been compared to weapons on popular war games like Halo and, if it were black, would likely look just like a real gun. The bright paint scheme, however, keeps it looking like what it is, a child’s toy, which is definitely a good thing. What makes this choice unlike many of the other guns that have come out from the same company is that it is fully automatic. With most other items from this company, children have to pump up the gun in order to get it to fire, and while that is fairly easy for teens and pre-teens, younger children often have a difficult time of it. The fact that it is fully automatic is one thing that puts it on the list of best toys 2011.
Aside from how it looks, the Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS actually works really beautifully. There are many additions and features on it that you won’t find on any other gun, like the blast shield. The blast shield attaches to the front of the gun and gives those playing with it a way to hide behind the gun without shot in the face while, at the same time, giving them a way to see through to their target. The hand grip is removable and also doubles as a tripod, which is ideal for younger children who want to have a steady grip or those who like to lay down or use a tripod to steady their blaster. The gun also gets amazing distance, with people able to shoot their darts 30 feet away straight out of the box, and the fact that it is loaded with clips makes it easy to reload when you’re in the middle of a Nerf war.
There are some bad sides, like the fact that it is a bit heavy. The gun weighs in at 2 pounds when the 6 D-cell batteries are added, which can get heavy for a younger child to carry around for long periods of time. And while the automated shooting is ideal, and allows you to fire off 30 darts in just ten seconds, the clips can take awhile to load, which is not good if you’re in the middle of a Nerf war.
All in all the Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS is definitely one of the best guns that the company has come out with in a long time, and is likely to be a favorite of all enthusiasts.
